Our story is uniquely kiwi. We are a South Canterbury owned, inter-generational business founded in 1979 by Lyndon Thompson.
Lyndon had the foresight to open his doors to business near State Highway One, south of the Opihi River in 1979. He and his team of three – all men of steel (so to speak) - started by building steel sheds to order, expanding on request into other areas of steel fabrication and then into commercial and farm buildings.
The company enjoyed steady demand until 2002, when Lyndon’s sons Craig and Vaughan took over the day-to-day running of the business, which became more diverse and trading as Thompson Construction & Engineering. Michelle Thompson joined the business in 2006, helping build the business into a major employer in Canterbury, South Canterbury and North Otago.
In 2011, Thompson opened an office in Christchurch, supporting a high level of construction work in the region particularly following the devastating series of Christchurch earthquakes but also due to natural expansion of the business generated by increased demand for precast.
