In 1978 Mr Lyndon Thompson opened a small engineering firm on State Highway 1, south of the Opihi River, fabricating small steel sheds. His team consisted of three men, all steel fabricators. Over time Mr Thompson’s company grew and they soon started to build small farm sheds as well as fabricating steel.

After training under their fathers guidance for 17 years, in 2002 Craig and Vaughan took over the running of their father's business and formed Thompson Engineering 2002 Ltd. Now trading as Thompson Construction & Engineering.

Over the years, Vaughan and Craig have continued to build the business to about 100 staff and run the company in four divisions. Their sister joined the company in 2006 in role of management and administration. The family, along with their loyal and talented team has developed Thompson into an all round experienced company, who can manage all types of building projects from start to finish.
